Just want to shout out a fantastic local business based here in West Orange. Carlos Chabla and his team at Charles & Sons Construction and Landscaping just completed a full renovation of our backyard, and we couldn't be happier with the results. They were the only company we could find who could do everything we wanted: they built a deck, a pergola, a basketball court, and a new stairway; removed a pond; pressure washed the existing patio areas; and installed landscaping. After our first meeting, Carlos created a computer-generated design plan for the work, so I could see clearly how everything would look and agree on exactly what he'd do; this was at no cost and just part of his initial quote. Throughout the project, Carlos was a consummate professional and a pleasure to work with: always open and responsive to our many questions and ideas, always there when he said he'd be, and very extremely reasonable in terms of prices. His team did exceptional work -- they clearly take great pride in what they do and built structures that are made to last and display exceptional craftsmanship. They worked quickly and left the space clean and tidy each day. If you're considering any work on the exterior of your house, I'd highly recommend that you give Carlos a call!

I cannot say enough about Charles & Son. I received 4 different quotes for our deck and retaining wall and Charles & Son was the most reasonable. I priced out material for our deck & retaining wall myself so I had a good idea how much material would be for our deck and retaining wall and reviewed estimates with this in mind. Charles started the project when he said he would, kept the site clean the whole project, and finished when he said. He and his men are a pleasure to work with and their craftsmanship is excellent, plus, they don’t smoke which is a big deal for me as I am asthmatic. Another big plus for me is that Charles comes to give you the quote and he is the one overseeing the entire project from start to finish. There will be no middle man on your project or subcontractor building your deck or retaining wall. I couldn’t be happier with our end result and look forward to enjoying many years. We plan on redoing our black top driveway within the next few weeks and will only make one call, Guess to whom? Yep, the one and only Charles and Son!!

Carlos and his team did an excellent job installing a new patio, fixing an existing retaining wall and drainage system. Professional, efficient and accommodating. Looking forward to working with them in the near future. Highly recommend!
Another great job by Carlos and his team! Removed 2 layers of asphalt, widened existing driveway and paved with asphalt. Also ran additional pipes for drainage. Professional, neat and very accommodating. Definitely recommend.

Carlos and his crew did a great job for our patio and front walkway. Carlos communicated well with us and gave a good price. His crew came on several weekends to finish all the work. they usually come around 8am and leave around 5pm and clean up the site everyday after working. We are very happy how the patio came out. When we noticed a problem with drainage after a heavy rain, Carlos came and check and send his crew again and fixed the issue. Highly recommended.

We live in the Cypress area of Verona, a 100-yr flood zone for the Peckman river. The Hovnanian construction in Cedar Grove has clear cut 90 acres of forested land and resulted in the water table rise and flooding of our neighborhood. As a result, we lost total enjoyment of our property. Charles came to our home, surveyed the property, and designed a drainage system that helps the water flow out to the street. The town is connecting this system to its main network in 2021. Charles team was prompt, professional, courteous and thorough. The land looks like very little work was done... they grass plugs were put back into place, the bare spots were seeded with hay sprinkled on top. We will now have our land back thanks to Charles!!! I was overwhelmed by how amazing a job they did and so quickly. Two days of work.

Couldn't recommend Carlos and his crew more. When many other contractors were nay sayers, coming up with problems without even trying, explaining things were not possible or were going to be outrageously expensive, Carlos had a can-do positive attitude, offering solutions and simply figuring out a way to make things happen. We hired them for a variety of work in our backyard: building a staircase coming down from our porch, leveling our sloppy backyard, installing a fence, planting bushes and finally extending and pretty much re-doing our sad little outdoor patio. I have worked on many movie set and my wife on many live events, productions that always involve a large and highly skilled group of people working toward a same goal, and I have to say, we have rarely seen a group of people work as hard and as efficiently as these guys. In 1 week, they totally reshaped our backyard, brought in whatever tractor and gear necessary (for the greatest pleasure of our 2yo and in 2 days they just made a wonderful blue stone patio appear out of thin air. The day before they started on the patio, Carlos pointed out that we should remove all the stones from the old patio and mix them with the new ones he was bringing so that it would look coherent and not additional. We never would have thought of that, and even though it meant more work for him and his crew, he made sure to point it out. These guys want a job well done, it's not only about getting the money and run, and this is what I always look for when I hire anyone. On the actual production days, from 8a to 5p, this crew barely ever stopped working and always maintain an artistic eye on the work. When things didn't work the way we thought they would as every project do, they made sure to find a solution that would look just as beautiful, if not more, instead of just moving along with something that would kind of work. Carlos is sometimes a little hard to reach but it's a small price to pay to have affordable talented workers transform your living space for the better. And also, Carlos is just a kind person, which makes this experience fun and pleasant all throughout. We can't wait to be able to work with them again.

Charles & Sons created a paver patio for my wife and I in our backyard. After contacting several companies, many of which did not want to place the patio where we wanted it because of a sloping yard, I reached out to Charles and Sons. Charlie came to my house to provide a free quote. Not only was he willing to place the patio exactly where I wanted it, he was significantly cheaper than everybody else. After hiring Charlie, it took some time for the work to begin, but once it did, there was no time wasting. Five guys came out to my house and created an amazing patio in one day. I managed to get a bigger patio, with the exact stones that I wanted, and at a much cheaper price. The guys were amazing! They were professional, focused, and incredibly hard working. I will definitely be hiring Charles and Sons for future projects.

I just wanted to thank you and your masonry crew for doing such a fantastic job in replacing the front steps of my home! The demolition of the old concrete steps was done quickly and very efficiently, as was the building of the new steps, which are absolutely beautiful! I want to thank you very much for the excellent job you did at my home. I first spoke to you went you were working across street where you put in a new staircase and walkway. Following that, you did a major job for our neighbors next door which transformed their property into a showcase. For us, you removed all the concrete around the house including the front walkway, concrete in front of the garage pathway on the side of the house and house and the large patio in the back. All of these areas were covered with the most exquisite pavers I have ever seen. You installed a new surface in the two car garage, planted about 40 tress around the property line, removed and replanted our front beds and installed drains in the front of the house. In a heavy rain, the drains did their job 100%. No puddles, no runoff, no mess. The job was large and complex and your workmanship was that of true craftsmen. You did what you said you would do, no hassles, no problems. Your men were courteous and helpful. You held the price quoted, which when compared to what other estimates were , was very reasonable. I highly recommend your Company and welcome any potential customers to look at the fine job you did for us. You are true professionals in every sense of the word.
