Lawn Maintenance Tips For Those Who Have Little Time

February 20, 2015

Most homeowners who have lawns often want to ensure that their lawns are of high quality. This not only increases the value of the home, but it also makes it more pleasant to live there as well. However, the one thing you can’t get away from is that without putting in some work, you are unlikely to end up with a lawn that will merit admiration from any one. This causes a problem for some people. If you do not have the time to keep tending to the lawn, how can you ensure that it stays in good condition? It might seem impossible at first, but there are a few things you can try out to avoid having it damaged. Some of these include:

Use a lawn setup that requires little attention from you

When you are setting up the lawn for the first time, you will often need to take into account issues such as the type of grass and other vegetation you want in it. In such cases, simply making such decisions at random is not a good idea. You should take into account the fact that you may not have that much time to tend to the lawn, and then use this as a basis for choosing the vegetation you want.

If you work with a landscaper, you can impress on them the fact that you will not have time to tend to the lawn. They can then suggest a few ideas that will ensure that the lawn will keep being aesthetically pleasing but without requiring too much attention from you. For instance, they can suggest grass species that will not require frequent mowing and which are hardy so that you don’t have to spend time on weeding them.

You need to remember that only a very good landscaper will be able to provide such services. Helping you do the above requires a lot of background knowledge on the different ways in which a lawn can be grown, so using a regular landscaper may not work.

Leave the work to your landscaper

The constant is that in order for a lawn to look appealing, a lot of work has to go into it. However, this does not mean that you have to do all the work. By getting a landscaper to be responsible for the lawn in the long term, you can ensure that you get the benefit of an appealing lawn without having to waste much time on it.

When most people think of landscapers, they often think that they can only get them during the initial design of the lawn. However, you can get the services of one in the long term. This means that they would be responsible for things such as weeding the lawn and taking any other steps necessary to keep it looking appealing. It will not cost you as much as you would imagine to get such services, since they would need to visit your home only once every two weeks to a month.

Delegate tasks to your family members

Another way to keep the lawn in good condition without having to spend so much time on it is by delegating some of the lawn-related tasks to your family members. For instance, if you have a few kids who are old enough, you could design a rota that assigns the duty of mowing it to each of them. You can spread this labor across the number of family members who can do it, thus reducing the need for one single person to keep doing it every time.

Invest in the right equipment

The type of equipment you use in lawn maintenance can determine how much time you spend on it. For instance, if you have a very old lawn mower that has a cutting tool that is not sharp enough, it could end up damaging the grass. This means that it will take you longer than necessary to mow the lawn, and it may also lead to bald patches in the grass as well.

By using the right equipment such as lawn mowers and quality aerators, you will reduce the amount of time it takes you to keep the lawn well maintained. Of course, you would also need to make sure that the equipment is well taken care of.

In summary, just because you have little time for the lawn does not mean that you can’t end up with an appealing one. By using one or more of the tips above, you can ensure that the lawn remains in a good condition even with minimal attention from you. By far, the most effective of the above solutions would be to consult a landscaper to handle the work for you. This way, you can afford to have minimal input in maintaining the lawn, but still stand to enjoy a beautiful lawn for your property.
